AI Transparency Statement
An AI transparency statement is a general explanation of how an organization uses AI systems. It is broader than a disclosure about one specific work product.
This page explains what an AI transparency statement is, what it is not, and how it differs from a provenance disclosure tied to a particular document, report, or other deliverable.
What an AI transparency statement does
An AI transparency statement usually describes organizational practices at a higher level. It may explain what kinds of AI systems are used, what safeguards exist, how human review works, and what principles guide the use of automation.
That kind of statement helps readers understand how an organization approaches AI use overall.
What it does not do
An AI transparency statement usually does not tell a reader exactly how one particular work was created. It does not usually identify the specific role of AI in a specific report, article, image, product deliverable, or disclosure.
That distinction matters. Organizational transparency is useful, but it does not answer every question about a single output.
When organizations use one
Organizations often publish an AI transparency statement to explain internal AI policies, governance practices, review expectations, or public commitments. It can be helpful for trust, investor review, public accountability, or general communications.
It is especially useful when stakeholders want to know how the organization approaches AI in the abstract, not only how one work product was prepared.
How it differs from a provenance disclosure
A provenance disclosure is narrower and more specific. It describes how a particular work was created, what role automation played, and who approved the final result.
An AI transparency statement says, in effect, “this is how we approach AI.” A provenance disclosure says, “this is how this particular work was created.”
Which one do you need?
Many organizations need both. A transparency statement helps explain policy and practice. A provenance disclosure helps explain the creation history of a specific work.
If your immediate need is to explain how a particular document or deliverable was created, a work-specific disclosure is usually the better fit. If you need a higher-level explanation of organizational approach, an AI transparency statement may be appropriate.
How this relates to Provenance Disclosure
Provenance Disclosure is designed for the work-specific side of transparency. It helps you create a structured record showing how a particular work was produced, what role AI played, and who reviewed and approved the final result.

Create a Provenance Disclosure
If you need a work-specific record rather than a high-level organizational statement, generate a Provenance Disclosure for the particular document or deliverable.
